My Programs

2-Year Old Story Time
With this group, I keep the music the same each week, but change the stories and rhymes.  It helps them to find consistency between the programs.  Plus, they get really excited that the "know" the songs!  From a leading perspective, keeping the same format helps maintain some sort of order so kids learn that when the song is over, it is time to sit and listen.  Here is a sample format:
  • Welcome
  • Story (start with the longest)
  • Song: If You're Happy and You Know it from Songs for Wiggleworms
  • Story
  • Song: Drivin' in My Car from Ralph's World by Ralph Covert
  • Flannelboard or rhyme
  • Song: Jump Up, Turn Around from Jim Gill Sings Moving Rhymes for Modern Times by Jim Gill
  • Flannelboard or rhyme
  • Song:  Wiggle Your Lah-De-Dah from All Around Ralph's World by Ralph Covert
  • Flannelboard or rhyme
  • Song: Spin Again from Jim Gill Sings Do Re Mi on His Toe Leg Knee by Jim Gill
  • Song: Shake Your Sillies Out from Yummy Yummy by The Wiggles
  • Clean up and pass out hand stamps
Music and Movement
This is one of our most popular programs and it really is just an enhanced story time.  It started out in 2006 when I wanted to add more music to our story times.  Now we have learned through ECRR2 (Every Child Ready to Read 2) that singing is an important component of early literacy.  While the stories and rhymes are aimed towards the two-year olds, we do allow kids up to 4 into the program (which the parents love as we have a lot of close siblings).
  • Welcome  (As children enter the room, they pick up their own shaker and scarf from the boxes by the door.)
  • Story (start with the longest)
  • Song: Shake Your Sillies Out from Yummy Yummy by The Wiggles
  • Story
  • Song: Drivin' in My Car from Ralph's World by Ralph Covert
  • Flannelboard or rhyme
  • Song: Jump Up, Turn Around from Jim Gill Sings Moving Rhymes for Modern Times by Jim Gill
  • Scarf activity:  Take your scarf, roll it into a ball, make it very small.  Then count 1, 2, 3, throw!  (Do it at least twice and say the rhyme out loud as you do it.)
  • Song: Jumping and Counting from Jim Gill's Irrational Anthem and More Salutes to Nonsense by Jim Gill
  • Flannelboard or rhyme
  • Song: Wiggle Your Lah-De-Dah from All Around Ralph's World by Ralph Covert
  • Shaker activity:  1, 2, shake it on your shoe.  3, 4, shake it on the floor.  5, 6, stir and mix.  7, 8, stand up straight.  9, 10, wave to all your friends.  (Act out with shaker as you say the rhyme).
  • Ribbon activity: Wave Your Ribbons in the Air from Hot Poppin' Popcorn by The Wiggles
  • Clean up and pass out hand stamps
